The Four Main Writing Styles

A writing technique is a method through which an author conveys their message to their audience in a way that is both meaningful and effective. There are four main writing styles. They are:

Descriptive writing

Descriptive writing draws the reader into a story by conjuring up vivid images of situations, events, and characters in the reader’s imagination, making them feel as if they are personally experiencing the event. In their work, descriptive writers frequently employ literary devices such as similes and metaphors.

Narrative writing

This is a writing technique that builds on descriptive writing by telling a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end. A salesman, for instance, could utilize narrative writing in the workplace to prepare the reader for their sales pitch.

Persuasive writing

Persuasive writing is a type of writing that is used to persuade readers to believe or act in a way that the writer desires. The writer must mix research and logical reasoning with an emotional connection to persuade readers to embrace their personal beliefs.

Expository writing

One of the most prevalent styles of writing, expository writing is meant to explain or introduce a topic to the reader. Expository writing provides answers to reader’s queries such as what, why, and how.
